The book i am reading is "NIght" by Elie Wiesel. The topic i chose was health. Many factors contribute to your health, either it being good or bad. When you eat a full three meals every day you stay healthy. When you only get a small portion of bread and soup each day, then you probably will become sick.
The impacts and criticalness of Bacon's Rebellion in history is that the administration in Virginia got to be startled by the risk of Civil War (the English Civil War was still crisp in everybody's memory). Bacon's Rebellion was the first insubordination in the American Colonies. Bacon's Rebellion and the Declaration of the People set a point of reference for future Americans to get uniformity. The Declaration of the People started the guideline of the assent of the general population. The disclosure of tobacco began the manor economy in Virginia and made an interest for shoddy work filled at first by poor, white Indentured hirelings and after that by dark slaves.
During the Salem Witch Trials in 1692, they used to tie accused witches to chairs and throw them in a lake, if they sank they were innocent. The Salem Witchcraft Trials were crazy, irrational and disturbing times. Young girls accused their neighbors and strangers of practicing witchcraft. The town decided to hold trials to see whether or not the accused really were witches. While they awaited their trials, they were held in a filthy jail.
Assuredly crime can have negative effects on anyone involved, however when the offender is familial, it can have an increased amount of detrimental effects on mental health. In the novel The Farm, Tilde is raped by her father repeatedly as a child. After she finally ran away, she leads a nearly perfect life, until her and Chris retire and move to a new country. In their new home, Tilde finds an abandoned building that Chris frequents, with many used condoms on the front lawn. It is 6.2 times more likely for a victim of rape to develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder than someone who has never been raped.
Hi Kolby I like how you pointed out that his childhood event could have begun to trigger a stress response that would cause him to be more sensitive to stress in the future. But I also do think it is worth noting that the patient did not seem to remember that the event happened. I would initially expect more of a conscious memory to have an effect on his stress response, but I suppose our subconscious does play a large part in our behavior. I also like how you mentioned his lack of social support from his family.
If the individual cannot cope will stressful events such as divorce, sexual abuse, an unstable home life, and death it can lead to and cause abnormal behavior. Lashing out or substance abuse can be coping mechanisms of anyone experiencing trauma, but serial killers tend to have factors of biological and psychological deformities that also inhibit deviant behavior. A blend of substance abuse, mental illness, and environmental factors can produce the deviant behavior that can mold and shape a serial killer. Trauma alone cannot be the predisposition of someone becoming a serial killer.
Emotional abuse as a child can cause aggressive and violent behavior throughout their life, no matter how old they are. Physical abuse as a child can cause periods of apathy where the victim is apathetic for a period of time. These are obvious explanations
Ecology and primates social systems intertwine just as we do with our primates DNA. Just to clear what social systems are is that the size, organization, and gender that correlate with all primates. The factors that contribute to this relationship include a plethora of categories that overall define ecology. The ecology categories that associate with primates social structures includes: population ecology, organismal ecology, ecosystem ecology, and community ecology. Population ecology analysis what aspects such as population circulation in addition to population density are affecting a given environment.
Some of these factors include, stress, grief or loss of a loved one, past trauma experience, and physical illnesses have been linked to the development of mental disorders. A person’s coping methods during earlier years can adversely
For example, people who have fought in war can very well have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which results into
For instance, injured war vets can develop PTSD. PTSD could potentially lead to increased stress or violence within a family and marital problems. According to U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (2015), the children of veterans suffering from PTSD “have more behavior problems than do those of Veterans without PTSD. Veterans with the most severe symptoms had families with the worst functioning,” (n.p.). In addition, child abuse has shown to increase in PTSD-affected families.
Harner & Burgess, 2011states that a range of physical and mental health illnesses have been associated with previous trauma exposure. The findings are especially evident in individuals, which have experienced multiple/prolonged periods of victimizations. Harris & Fallot 2004 also states that one of the most common effects of trauma experience is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), an anxiety disorder that is likely to develop later in response to traumatic event. Symptoms experienced with PTSD include re-living symptoms (nightmares, flash backs, interfering and unpleasant
A child who experiences trauma of domestic violence will hinder their emotional growth, hence the child will not develop and maintain a normal level of trust. A child that experiences domestic violence or is exposed to domestic violence can develop a fear of their environment, for they think that everyone will try to hurt them. They also do not trust anyone with their problems or issues, hence they will keep everything inside and this will affect their state of mind. An abused spouse may experience chronic psydiasmatic pain or pain due to diffuse trauma without visible evidence. This form of pain will have a very bad effect on the body.
Because of this, findings regarding the relationship between PTSD and violence should be interpreted cautiously if they are based on analyses that do not take risk factors other than PTSD into account. For example, in one study of Veterans who served post-9/11, PTSD when examined on its own was associated with an increased risk of violence. However, when alcohol misuse was statistically controlled, PTSD was no longer associated with an
These changes may leave victims more vulnerable to depression, addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the study suggests (Szalavitz). In this experiment, it proved how the people who were diagnosed with a mental illness had a history of abuse from a young age and therefore were immune to different illnesses, putting depression at number one. In addition, most children inherited half of the symptoms of depression which, eventually in the future will branch out to different types of mental illnesses. This proves that parental guidance is necessary for a child’s survival because the child itself is born into the world knowing nothing, and thus, will adapt to the surroundings of the world with the help of their leaders. Furthermore, according to the Canadian Mental Health Association; a complex interplay of genetic, biological, personality and environmental factors causes mental illnesses.
