This sentence from Jordan Baker is surprising “I hate carelessness people.” (p.58). What is irony in this sentence is that Jordan Baker says it, who is also a careless person. Most people usually see others mistake more than yourself and it apply here. She only care to see the mistake of others, the mistake of Tom and Daisy in their marriage, but she doesn’t she herself a careless person because she very careless about herself. Another irony in this book showing careless was when Wolfsheim is talking to Nick about Gatsby, he says: “Yeah, Gatsby’s very careful about women. He would never so much as look at a friend’s wife.” (p.72). At this chapter you might not realizes that this sentence is irony, but you will realizes slowly after. Gatsby is trying to get Nick trust to see Daisy, whom he in loves with for a long time even she now is married to Tom. Wolfsheim says he would never look at friend’s wife which is true because Tom and Gatsby aren’t friends, but it still he did look for somebody else’s wife and have a desire to break their marriage.
