Climax is the point of greatest intensity or suspense in drama, when the outcome of the conflict is finally made clear to us. In act III we see many different examples of climax from the beginning of the act to the very end. Personally I believe the climax is when Polonius dies by the hands of Hamlet. One of the many reason I believe this is because Claudius now knows that Hamlet is on to him and wants him dead. Another example of climax is the play that is created by Hamlet to humiliate Claudius. This however will eventually lead to the downfall of Hamlet. In act III scene II, Hamlet decides to put on a play in front of everyone about the the corruption that lies within the new king of Denmark. The play that Hamlet basically created to reenact what happened to his father was call The Mousetrap. Lucianus the man who is the murder in the play says “Evil thoughts, ready hands, the right poison, and the time is right too. The dark night is on my side, for no one can see me. You deadly mixture of weeds and plants, which Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, has put a spell on, use your magic to steal this healthy person’s life away.” in Act III scene II on page 11, the actor that plays the king then dies. This however is only the second reason in this essay as to why Hamlet is at a downward spiral. Polonius says on page two in act III scene IIII “Oh I've been killed” this does not at all help Hamlets case. Hamlet killed Polonius thinking it was Claudius because he was in his mother's bedroom. Everyone already thinks that Hamlet is crazy so killing someone wouldn’t make anyone think he is any less insane.
