The main conflict in the book, Farewell to Manzanar, the biggest and main external conflict in the book begins during the bombing of Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941. The conflict affects everybody around the area when the bombing happened. When the bombing was taking place that day,Jeanne’s father, known as Papa and his fishing crew were out on the water for a fishing trip on their boat. All the women thought of it as a normal fishing trip and they stayed on the shore and waved goodbye to the men setting sail. But, before the boats get out of everyone's sight, all the boats turn around and start heading back to shore and the fishing docks.
