The company faces many conflicts in the hobbit. The massive conflict is good vs evil. This is demonstrated many times when the good people fight the evil in the way. We can break this major conflict down into three major conflicts.
The first major one is man vs man. The dwarves meet many dark creatures in their path. The first man vs man is when the dwarves get captured by the trolls. Gandalf then outwits the trolls and they turn to stone. They have a bigger battle with the goblins. They kill the great goblin and many more and barely escape with their lives. When they lose Bilbo during this time he meets Gollum. Gollum and he engage in a riddle game with if losing he loses his life. Bilbo wins and escapes from Gollum. The group then battles with the wargs and are saved by the eagles. The massive man vs man is in the battle of five armies. This battle is the lake-men, elves, and dwarves against the goblins and the wargs. Each of these battles helps prepare them for one coming next that is bigger and more evil.
