In To Kill a Mockingbird many of the characters showed courage. Courage means to do something that can be hard or scary. Characters that showed courage were Scout, Boo Radley, and Atticus. Scout shows courage in many different ways throughout the book. When the mob tries to hurt Tom she talks to them, and gets them to leave. She is showing courage here, because most kids would not try to reason with someone that is doing something like that. Scout also takes up for her dad when the kids tease her about him defending Tom. Most kids would not stand up to bullies, because they are afraid. Her and Jem also go sit with the African Americans during the court case. Normally all people during that time period would not sit with the African Americans. Those are some of the many ways Scout shows courage during the book. Boo Radley also shows courage in many different ways toward the end of the book. He does not normally come outside, but when he heard Scout scream he came out. Since he had not come outside in a long time it took courage for him to come out to help them. He also kills Bob Ewell when he tries to kill Scout and Jem. He also sits outside Tom’s cell, because he knows that the mob is going to try to hurt Tom. Atticus is showing courage there, because he could have gotten hurt trying to protect Tom. He also showed courage trying to get Bob Ewell's death to be blamed on Jem. He did this, because he knew that Boo Radley killed Bob.
