Deceptive Moments Screaming the colorful Spanish commands at my high school marching team, I wore a huge smile on my face knowing that no other team could understand much of what I was saying. It was a day when the school cheered on and awarded athletes who compete against eachother in various activities. The event to kick this off is the march-past in which 5 teams compete for the crown of best marching team. My intention was to confuse other marching teams, because earlier they had been incoorporating our routine into theirs in hopes of having the upper-hand during their demonstration. Although, none of them have been at extreme lengths. A few times, I was the one who deceived another person. Deception, no matter which party commits it, always hurts the other party in some way. But what if the deceiver is the one being deceived? My recent experience with this should explain this more. Walking briskly across the quad from Lincoln Plaza, I was headed to my first ever English class of the Winter quarter. “Room 352,” I quietly repeated in my head as I rushed through the mildly confusing hallways of Curtis Hall. I was on my way to the classroom where I previously had my English 101 sessions a term before, so I was confident of my path to my English 102 class session. I finally arrived, and I found out that the room was labelled 255. What I thought would be a journey of easy location quickly turned into a hustle speeding through the different halls. There are many other ways I have experienced deception, even some I may not be fully aware of currently. I hope to use what I learn in my class and throughout my research process as tools to identify those experience, as well as how to avoid them or use them to my benefit in the
