This play is the Crucible written by Arthur Miller. The universal theme is lies and deceit because those two things can corrupt the minds of the towns people and the lies will eventually come back to haunt you. The conflict John Proctor and Abigail Williams, also Abigail and
Elizabeth, and Tituba and the town’s people will be proven.
First, John Proctor and Abigail Williams have conflict because John committed adultery with Abigail and his wife found out. I am only wondering how I may prove what she told me,
Elizabeth. If the girls a saint now, I think it’s easy to prove she’s fraud and the town will go silly.

John knows he messed up and his wife is being rude about it, having that “whatever” attitude about it.
Second, Abigail and Elizabeth have conflict because Abigail hates Elizabeth for firing her and keeping her anywhere near John. She is blackening my name in the village. She is telling lies about me! She is a cold, sniveling women, and you bend to her (miller 150). This explains how lies and deceit can corrupt peoples mind, Abigail Williams was talking to John about the affair and he kept lying saying they didn’t touch and all of this and when Elizabeth fired her she went back to John and told him all these bad things about his wife. So the lies is making Abigail crazy because she knows what happened and everyone thinks it didn’t happen, so the lies are making her accuse Elizabeth of witchcraft to get back at John for lying and
Elizabeth for firing her.
