I believe Apple’s reference of deprofessionalism and Popham’s reference of professional impotence are on target. Teachers are afraid to add what they think is useful to the curriculum because of time restraints with all the high stakes testing and the mandated curriculum standards. They find themselves limited on time to cover what needs to be covered for the test and “forget” focusing on adding creativity or going above and beyond. Where are the days of effective teaching? Too many times, teacher teach to the test and focus on one test at the end of the year. Then just about everyone shuts down after the test and a whole month of instructions is lost as this point.
Curriculum specialist have an harder role of trying to help teachers determine appropriate curriculum to teach in their classroom. They have to find common ground, what is best for everyone.

In the future I see principals and curriculum specialists becoming even more stressed not only because of testing but their fear of being in school improvement as the tests get harder. Many will have to work even longer hours to keep up with the ever changing tests and to prepare their students effectively. I see teachers given even less freedom in planning their lessons and assessments for their classrooms. Instructional leaders and principals jobs will become even more demanding in years to come because of high stakes testing. Individuals with roles in education will begin to have fear in losing their jobs as well because of budget cuts. I believe educational leaders will have to work harder to get the standards taught than ever
