One of the biggest concerning the need for an increase in rigor in instruction in American schools. She discusses that in Poland students must stay in academic classes for an extra year and teachers are paid bonuses to engage in professional development work. In the article, “Quarrel over Common Core: A Pennsylvania Primer” by Randy Kraft (2014), Common Core and the controversy surrounding it are discussed heavily. Kraft’s thesis is to inform the audience about Common Core and explain, impartially, the arguments for and against it. In 2010, Pennsylvania took on the Common Core Standards. These standards were put in place to ensure that students of Pennsylvania were on the same academic level by graduation, and enable them to be better equipped to compete in a global marketplace (p. 1).

In the state of Washington, the state- and federal-mandated standardized test is called Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). The intent of the SBAC is to test students on “knowledge, skills, and processes students display at predetermined levels of achievement” in the academic areas of ELA and math. The knowledge, skills, and processes are based off the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The test scores are used to calculate the achievement gap. The achievement gap is the difference in average test scores between various minority students to their white peers.
In now days, many people were start to buy electric cars instead of petroleum based cars. However, because of the not-well-developed technologies, many tragedy happened. These alternative fuels may not be less damadging than petroleum, it may just be that that have npt been around long enough for their full consequences to be appreciated. Even it costs less pollution than petroleum cars, the environmental impact of powering vehicles will not disappeared. US government should not ban the petroleum based cars, because it is unnecessary, costly, and conflicts on storing extra energy for daily use.
Recently, the Common Core State Standards were developed and kids were going to be tested more than ever. However, all of this education reform has been a failure because our testing scores have not improved, the testing makes children suffer, and it doesn’t improve how teachers teach. Change may be described as the adoption of an innovation (Carlopio 1998), where the ultimate goal is to improve outcomes through an alteration of practices. The above saying can truly be applied on the modern education system. The society in the twenty first century is increasingly diverse, globalized, and complex and media-saturated. In today’s world of technology, the olden education system with its teacher-centered approach, passive learning, time based, textbook driven, fragmented curriculum, low expectations from the learner does not seem to cater to the learning needs of twenty first century students.
