An ethical dilemma occurs when it challenges a person's "core values and fundamental obligations" (Tracy & O'Grady, 2019, p. 312). Tracy & O'Grady describe three themes that emerge when ethical issues arise in nursing practice: problems with communication, interprofessional conflict, and multiple commitments and obligation (2019). Inadequate communication presents a moral dilemma when information needs to be more open, transparent, and concise (Tracy & O'Grady, 2019). Interprofessional conflict occurs due to the varied viewpoints of healthcare professionals leading to different perspectives on the management of care (Tracy & O'Grady, 2019). As a health care provider, it is the duty to provide and explain information to a patient so they can make an informed and appropriate decision regarding his or her care (Seely, et. al., 2022). When dealing with a patient who speaks both English and Spanish but whose primary language is Spanish, any procedure the patient must undergo must be explained in their primary language to minimize miss communication and increase the understanding of the risk and benefits. Cost containment issues can present an ethical dilemma for APRNs. Tracy and O'Grady describe the dilemma of a practitioner wanting a CT scan to evaluate a patient with a known history of diverticulitis presenting with abdominal pain and fever (Tracy & O'Grady, 2019). However, insurance authorization will take twenty-four hours, possibly delaying care (Tracy & O'Grady, 2019). The dilemma faced by the practitioner is delaying the treatment plan pending the CT scan or advising the patient to go to the ER (Tracy & O'Grady). In this case, as a practitioner, I would discuss with the patient option of waiting for the authorization of the CT scan or going to the emergency department, which may result in a financial burden to the patient (Tracy & O'Grady,
