Have you ever come across something evil? I fortunately haven’t, but I do watch of shows on TV and read lots of books in which there are lots of examples of evil, Shakespeare’s Jacobean tragedy Macbeth explores themes such as ambition, Christian and pagan values, the monarchy versus feudalism, as well as the dangers of evil.
In Act three scene four of the play, Macbeth declares “I am in blood. Stepped in so far that should I wade no more.” Macbeth acknowledges his actions and sins as he commits regicide by killing Duncan, and Banquo is also killed. I believe that Shakespeare aims to warn his audience in that the notions of regicide and homicide being cardinal sins. The murders were committed out of greed and the need to become king, which is one of the seven deadly sins. This means that evil is present in the world

Furthermore, Shakespeare warns his audience of the consequences of interfering with the Natural Order as Macbeths world begins to descend into chaos. This is seen in Act two scene three when Porter tells Macbeth “Some says the earth was feverous and did shake”. This is a consequence of the disruption to the natural order that Shakespeare communicates against using the weather, as it was believed in medieval times that when the weather went awry, something had happened to the natural order. This is also seen in the act two scene four when Duncan’s horses become uncontrollable and eat each other “And Duncan’s horses, a thing most strange and certain… ‘Tis said they eat each other.” Shakespeare demonstrates to his audience that when regicide is committed and the great chain of being has been disrupted, earth will also be disrupted.
