“Fair is foul, and foul is fair…” In the story of Macbeth, Three witches on a battlefield with Macbeth and Banquo share this tale with three prophecies that follow speaking that Macbeth will be Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and king in the future. These prophecies change how Macbeth views his future after he suddenly becomes Thane of Cawdor after meeting the three witches. Although Macbeth wanted to be king, his wife Lady Macbeth is mainly the cause of all of the tragedies. Macbeth knew the only way to the king was to kill the king and his son but he didn’t want to, as it would ruin the good relationship he has with Duncan. Lady Macbeth manipulates Macbeth and she had it all planned out. Lady Macbeth is most responsible for the tragedies that happen in Macbeth due to the way she drives someone to get what she wants. Lady Macbeth is responsible for many reasons. For instance, Lady Macbeth also puts Macbeth down by telling him that if he doesn’t kill Duncan, he is not a man and will never be one until he kills the king. “ When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man” (Act 1, Scene 7).
