Some people such as David Epstein when he wrote The Sports Gene and William Shakespeare when he wrote Macbeth both believed that their fate was set and nothing could alter what happened and everything that happened was due to their fate. William Shakespeare expressed this by directly telling the audience by the witches who meet up telling him he will soon not just be a thane but a king so Macbeth wasn’t patient and tries to bring his destiny sooner and brings his kingship to an end sooner than it could have been. Donald Thomas, a man with an abnormal talent that he was born with and didn 't even realize how much of an advantage over he has over his fellow high jumpers (Epstein5). Thomas was born with a large Achilles tendon, which helps with the ability of jumping and the larger it is the higher you can jump (Epstein7). Thomas had a huge edge on his competitors and lets him sky rocket to the top without even knowing how to professionally jump he didn’t even have any technique (Epstein7). If Thomas didn’t have that genetic mutation to give him a larger tendon he would not have made it to the top so because of destiny he had made it to the top and was the best of the high jumpers. Epstein then describes how scientists research how Thomas really did have such an advantage and how he did not fully tap the true protentional. Epstein then goes on to describe how it is not hard work and determination that will bring you to the top yet it is just purely up to destiny and fate that will bring you higher up which is very true in Thomas 's
