The previous governmental charter, the Articles of Confederation, failed because it was just too weak and wasn’t getting the job done. Under the Articles of Confederation, there was no court system, no chief executive, and there was no particular way for the central government to force states to pay their taxes. By creating the Constitution, it would build a stronger central government and would be able to hold the nation together.
The American Revolution was characterized by many sides inspired by the different motivation, perceptions and interests. The characters involved were mainly patriots, loyalists and moderates. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the loyalists were the North American colonists who remained loyal to the crown of the British; often they were refereed as royals or kings men.
Sectionalism in the United States “A house divided against itself cannot stand”, said the president Abraham Lincoln. His words did not come out of nothing, but of the events happening in his lands during his term. One of the most efficacious episode in the history of the United States was the Civil War of 1861. As the 1800s went by, Nationalism seemed to emerge triumphant, meaning stronger sectional rivalries developed between two sections of the U.S. Historians conclude that the division between the North, known as the Free State, and the South, the slave states, had been adding up since the beginning of the eighteenth century, starting with small differences among the citizens.
Around this era of the late 1700’s, the citizens of the newly independent nation of “America” were in the process of ratifying their government from the Articles of Confederation to the current Constitution which allowed for a democratic republic. The people in support of this ratification were the “Federalist” whom often used pamphlet writings known as the “Federalist Papers” to persuade and inform the public of their ideas and Constitution ratification. After all the challenges the United States faced in making the Constitution, our Founding Fathers had to revise the “rough draft” called, The Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation weren’t sufficient to make this country succeed, therefore we created a new Constitution. The Constitution was written in May of 1887 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Our new Constitution made it possible for us to become a country based on Federalism, or a compound government and not result in tyranny. What is tyranny?
Maintain and raise a navy and army, in general, armed forces. Before Federalism, during the Confederation this process got difficult because of the absence of funds, it was a trouble to raise money to pay the expenses of the service of soldiers and other situations, but later it got easier because the power of raising taxes came into effect and made economic situation more practical. Establish a court system, with strategies and organization to improve political administration. Furthermore, this power strengthened the validity of the processes to exercise justice with objectivity and fairness. It had the power to make and modify laws in order to carry out its power.
After the creation of the Constitution two groups formed and called themselves the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. The two groups had very different opinions on the creation of the constitution and disputed matters for a very long time until they came to an agreement. Through out the whole process there were many discussions, meetings and lots of influence from both sides. Eventually the influence of some individuals helped to pass the Constitution, but not before the Anti-Federalists had their say. The Federalists favored the Constitution and was lead by many founders.
During the writing of the Constitution there was a group of people who did not agree with the federalist and they were the anti-federalists. They believed in the exact opposite of what the federalists believed. The federalists believed "that the nation might not survive without the passage of the Constitution"(The Ratification Debate). They argued that the government would only have powers that the Constitution would state. They also argued that the separation of the powers of government would help balance out power and help prevent any tyranny.
As the authors of the American Constitution came together in Philadelphia in 1787, they sought to appeal to a divided nation. They faced the daunting task of bridging the gap between local and national control, allowing Americans to overcome their fear of central power by leading citizens away from smaller state sovereignty and toward a common goal of one united nation. In this document, the founding fathers appealed to the political viewpoints of both Federalists and Antifederalists with the goal of establishing a common ground from which to govern. The document was important to the time period because it was the first time that the established colonies were coming together to form a united nation, rather than thirteen separate colonies.
The Federalists fought for stability and safety supplied by a strong national government. This excluded including the Bill of Rights, which were unnecessary and dangerous with the restrictions put on people’s freedoms and rights. The advantage of federalism was that it prevented the government from becoming too powerful since there was a dispersal of power from the national government to the state. This would help the people have a voice through their states and bring unity. If the system were to stay the same there would be mayhem and violence among the states.
This country was founded with the attempt to separate the federal government and the state government, known as federalism. The goal of federalism is to divide the power of state and federal governments, protect the rights of the state, and prevent tyranny of the majority. Throughout the years, federalism turned into dual federalism where the state and federal government were completely independent of each other and only shared a dependency on the Constitution. The united states suppressing now to cooperative federalism, the national government has assumed even more power, overruling the states with Supreme Court decisions and actions, and executive Orders. Furthermore, the Federal government should grant their state governments more power, due to the connection the state governments hold with their local people.
GOVT 2305 The founding fathers of federalism wanted to create a balance between states and the federal government. The American people were skeptical about federalism in fear that the government would become too strong. They had fought Britain for their independence to ensure they would no longer be ruled by a king.
We gained two important pieces of American history from the discourse between the Federalist and the Anti-Federalists. First we gained a more balanced Constitution with the addition of the Bill of Rights. Second being the Federalist Papers. The federalist papers are a collection of 85 articles and essays written. These papers explained the Constitution and its meaning to many who were not informed.
In 1787, a final draft of the Constitution was submitted to the states for ratification. Those who were in favor of the ratification were called Federalist or nationalist. Among these federalists, were James Madison of Virginia, John Jay of New York and Alexander Hamilton. They had a concrete proposal. They wrote a collection of 85 essays defending the principle of a strong national government.
The term “transgender” is a label that was never used until the mid 1960s. According to history, “Psychiatrist John F. Oliven of Columbia University coined the term transgender in his 1965 reference work Sexual Hygiene and Pathology (“Transgender”)”. When a transgender person desires to be the opposite gender, they may get an invasive surgery to fully transition into their new identity. Multiple transgender people have started to announce the having of the surgery has destroyed their future (Bindel). People have the right to be whatever gender they aspire to be, but transgender people should do public activities and should stay grouped with their biologically assigned sex.
