For this essay, the theme being presented is financial inequality. Financial Inequality means having unfairness with earning money. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird (TKM), an example of this theme in the story is the Cunninghams who are low on finances which makes an income off of farming crops and are paid below what a normal family gets. Although, there are also other people in the world who are dealing with financial inequality, an example of this is sexism which contributes to the conflicts of being financially unequal. For example, women get paid less than men because of their gender or how they are being told that mind, strength and knowledge is known for men and unsuitable for women. Sexism is one of a real world problem in society. Sexism relates to financial inequality because women gets paid less than men and get judged by how weak they are compared to men. According to Buisnessinsider.com, it states that, “...on average, a woman earns 21% less than her male counterpart.” This explains the average amount a woman gets paid than men which women get paid 21% less than men. …show more content…

For instance, when Walter went to school and had no lunch or shoes and made it apparent for others to see that he never had very much money. Although, Scout was never intentionally being rude, she told Ms. Caroline that he was poor and how he couldn’t pay back what he took. Furthermore, Scout was assessing his financial well being with his clothes. In page 27 of TKM, it states, “His absence of shoes told us how he got them. People caught hookworms going barefoot in barnyards and hog wallows.” This shows Scout judging of how Walter dresses and his financial well
