Police officers are learned in the academy about force continuum. Force continuum are considers police presence, verbal commands, threat of force, non-lethal compliance techniques, disabling techniques and lethal force. Now, be mindful depending on your police department policy, the incident situation, the officer and the area in which that officer polices these force continuum does not always goes as plan. When officers arrived to an incident location or witness an incident and confront the individual about the incident, he or she is showing officer presence. This technique is use when an officer has to go hand on without using disabling injury with an individual to get him or her detain. For example, if the officer advised an individual to place his or her hands behind their back, but the suspect refused the officer make use a takedown technique to detain the suspect. Use of lethal compliance techniques is when an officer physically incapacitates the individual when trying to make the arrest of the individual. For example, if the officer witnessed an individual to commit a crime in his presence and the officer advised that person to stop and the suspect flee from the officer. The officer advised dispatch of the incident and take off running after the suspect and the officer caught the suspect, but the suspect started to resist by fighting the officer. The officer placed the suspect in an arm locked and disabling the suspect from continuing fighting. The last force continuum is lethal force or deadly force. When an officer have to take action to prevent this individuals from harm you or a third parties from serious injuries or death. For example, an officer get dispatch to a fight call which involved weapon. The officer arrived to the incident location and observed an individual with a handgun point at another person. The officer give multiple loud verbal commands while his or her department issues service weapon is drew at the individual with the handgun, “To drop their weapon.” The individual does not compliance with your commands, so that officer is force to use deadly force to save the third parties from serious injuries or
