632 Words3 Pages

Romeo and Juliet Argumentative essay Love, Grief, and Guilt are some of the three most prominent feelings felt by characters during Romeo and Juliet. Although, for guilt, I feel as though the people at fault the most for the events in the story would be Lord Capulate, and Tybalt. Tybalt was the character that started most of the fights, he influenced the family feud more than any other character. Lord Capulate is one of the characters to blame, as he forced Juliet into the marriage with Paris. Together, the two made it excessively difficult for Juliet to come clean to her family because of their views of the Montague family. Tybalt was one of the most influential characters in Romeo and Juliet. From the fights he caused, to his death, it all …show more content…

What, does this peasant dare to come here with his face covered.?” (63). This quote, spoken by Tybalt shows us how deep the hatred between the families runs, as well as how easily Tybalt will resort to violence over reasoning. Another example of Tybalt's influence is when his death occurs at the hands of Romeo, initially, Romeo would be to blame however Tybalt had also killed Mercutio, Romeo’s friend, and as a result Romeo wanted Tybalt's life. “He’s waiting for you to keep him company on the way up to heaven.” (149). This quote, spoken by Romeo, tells us how Romeo was completely dedicated to either killing Tybalt, or dying trying to. Lord Capulate is one of the characters that should be held to blame the most because of his influence on Juliet's decisions. Lord Capulate was the one that allowed Paris to be married to Juliet, disregarding her decision in the matter completely “I’ll make a desperate argument for my child's love. She’ll do whatever I say.” (183). Before Tybalt's death, Lord Capulate was hesitant about marrying off Juliet, however, as shown in the quote, his views change and he decides that he does in fact want Juliet to marry Count Paris. …show more content…

I'll make this wedding happen tomorrow morning.” (221) This quote, spoken by Lord Montague causes Juliet to commence the friar's plan early, complicating it immensely. One might argue that Friar Lawrence is to blame for the event that occurred, this can be taken into account, as he was the one who married Romeo and Juliet, and he was the one that made the decision to play out a terrible plan. “I didn't tell you to get rid of one love and replace her with another” (103). Many of the situations Friar Lawrence was forced into, like the quote above that reads about how he was coerced into marrying Romeo and Juliet against his better judgment. Another example of Friar Lawrence not being at fault, is when his letter about the plan doesn't get to Romeo. Romeo had no way of knowing, since Friar John wasn't able to deliver the letter on time. Ultimately, if the letter had been delivered successfully, Friar Lawrence’s plan would have worked. In Romeo and Juliet, the characters that should be held to blame for the sequence of events would be Lord Capulate and Tybalt.
