Have you ever had a fight with your siblings because they accused you of breaking something in the house? How would you feel if it wasn’t just breaking something small in the house, but rather the killing of another person? In the Serial podcast, an 18 year old high school Muslim boy, Adnan, was accused of murdering his Korean ex-girlfriend, Hae. His accuser was his 19 year old friend, Jay. Serial goes through the alibis that were presented and weren’t present at the trial. This means that any action from a woman that could consequently ruin the family’s name could concluded in her getting killed. The state said that Adnan killed Hae because she displayed disrespect towards Adnan when she broke up with him. He gave up his religion by dating her when he was not supposed to, but Hae broke up with him. Adnan killed Hae since he viewed the break up as a dishonor towards him after he had given up his religion for her. The thing is, Adnan was born in America and he seemed to be more Americanized than being Muslim. He drinks, smokes, and date even when he was not supposed to, meaning that he doesn’t follow his religion.
