Leadership and intelligence are essential to a well-rounded group of people. For example, Dally and Odysseus both share great leadership qualities. Odysseus and Dally both show strong leadership however, they do have some differences. A difference in these characters is their intelligence. Although Odysseus has the quick thinking skills that Dally falls short of. Both Odysseus from The Odyssey and Dally from The Outsiders demonstrate outstanding leadership.

In particular, Odysseus helped his crew escape from the Cyclops: Polyphemus by strongly convincing them to follow his lead and plan.
‘’Have courage. A solution will present itself. Haven't I gotten us out of tougher scrapes than this one?’’ (4) Odysseus exclaims.

Dally was a leader when Johnny killed a socs and ran away instead of turning himself in because they went to Dally for help and a sense of what to do next.
‘’Johnny, I ain’t mad at you. I don't want you to get hurt. You don't know what a few months in jail can do to you’’ (76).
This quote demonstrates that Dally would protect Johnny even when he did something wrong. It shows Dally is a leader. After all, he is warning him not to get hurt and telling him what to do because he knows what it is like.
Therefore, Dally and Odysseus share many traits. But in times of need, they are both great leaders.

On the other hand, a difference between the characters Odysseus and Dally is their intelligence level.
First, Odysseus shows a lot of intelligence when he dresses up as a beggar to fool his son and Penelope. ‘’Eumaeus may not be smart, but he is loyal’’ (56). This quote shows that he is getting away with the disguise around his son, and sneaking around so his son doesn't realize he is Odysseus quite yet.
