In life, lies ruin relationships and breaks trust.This idea of deceitfulness can be shown in many different ways, like in books, movies, and real life. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, the moral issues and constant lying displayed by each character led to the inevitable destruction of their lives and friendships. Although most of the characters in this novel are untruthful and untrustworthy, one, in particular, has dug himself into a hole of lies that he cannot get out of. The wonderful, amazing Gatsby might not be so great after all. “Their tragedies are largely self-made, as they become victims of their own romantic moralism” (Magill 683). For Gatsby, he never won over his true love, Daisy, which was the main plot of the whole story. He also had a very tragic ending, being shot by Mr. Wilson for something he did not even do. Daisy’s life was changed as well. She never got to be with Gatsby, who she loved, because her obsession with money overpowered her feelings. Daisy never got over her selfishness and continued to only think about herself. Also, both she and Tom felt it was necessary to move away and leave their whole lives behind because they did not care to clean up the mess they made. "Tom and Daisy Buchanan, insulated by their money, do what they want without consequence, showing no remorse for their actions and no concern for those they have harmed" (Magill 688). Although it was not right for them to be together, Tom still loved Myrtle and lost her in the accident. Jordan did not get to be with Nick in the end and continued to live a life full of dishonesty. As for Nick, he barely played a part in the story, but his life was the one changed the most. He lost Jordan, Tom, Daisy and Gatsby all at once. After having no life left to salvage on West Egg, Nick moved back home the Midwest. Finally, Nick also lost his faith in humanity and saw the destruction people could cause in the
