Is Gatsby a likeable Character In this novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald he creates a story where there isn’t really any likeable characters. It depends on what you like to see out of a character. There is a lot of vagueness surrounding the whole story which makes it difficult to read what the true intentions of the characters are. This holds true with Gatsby because his likability goes both ways. Gatsby can be a likeable character because he made his way up the rich person ladder because he wanted to be a rich man for Daisy. Everything he did to be where he is at was because of his love for Daisy. Gatsby to the party goers is like ghost. They have never spoken to him before and all of what they know about him is told through stories and rumors. This adds a great level of vagueness to Gatsby and helps develop the main plot to the novel. It's the vague plot behind Gatsby that adds the most power to his character. Without having to do much it is the beliefs of other characters that shapes who Gatsby is as a person in the story. The character who adds the most to Gatsby's persona is Nick Carraway.
