The Republican sniper had medical knowledge from training that helped him, for the rest of his life. An opposing sniper on a rooftop targeted and shot the Republican sniper. The shot had left his arm immobilized, and left him in a lot of pain. Since the bullet was still in his arm and most likely fractured the bone, the Republican sniper saturated the bullet hole with iodine to prevent infection and clean the wound. Then, he covered the wound in a piece of cotton and added the dressing over it.
Though the Sniper had to make sure that his image of being a "strong" and "heartless" soldier doesn't slip, by killing these people, he isn't considered weak or cowardly. Nonetheless, this backfired on the sniper because all of the chaos led to the enemy taking a shot at the sniper's arm, Lastly, the Sniper has had enough of this war and must kill the enemy. To do this, he uses violence, which he learns isn't the best idea. The Sniper tricks the enemy into thinking he's dead, it would be quite convincing since the enemy already shot the sniper. After this, the sniper takes steady aim and shoots the gun: "The Sniper looked at his enemy and he shuddered.
Twenty-three days is a long time to stay in and worry about being next on the shooters list. “The day of October 2, 2002, the beltway snipers began terrorizing people (Fbi.gov).” The beltway snipers, who are they, what crime did they commit, and theories of why they committed the crime is what this paper is about. On March 5, 1770, five people died at the hands of British soldiers in Boston, Massachusetts. Based on an analysis of the eyewitness testimonies, medical examiner’s reports, and the crime scene, it was determined that the soldiers did not commit murder, but rather acted in self-defense. Many eyewitness testimonies clearly describe the mob as threatening to the point where the soldiers felt they were in danger. Dr. John Jeffries, the surgeon attending to Patrick Carr, who died during the incident, states that Carr said the soldier who shot him “had no malice, but fired to defend himself.”
One of the gunmen shot and killed Markus Boyd, and spared Greg Elking. The two shooters fled the scene. Later, Leslie, the girlfriend of Boyd, suspected Lamar Johnson, a long time friend of Boyd’s, killed his
But the sniper is much different. He is very arrogant, as he is eating a sandwich and risks a smoke ‘because he can.’ Even after he is shot, he still retains a sense of arrogance and entitlement. Also, he risks crossing the street to see who the enemy sniper was that he killed, even though it is extremely dangerous. His arrogance is portrayed in the passage, “The revolver went off with a concussion, and the bullet whizzed past the sniper’s
The shots that were fired were too fast to just be one person because the bolt action rifle that was supposedly used couldn’t fire that fast even professional shooters that we tested couldn't do that and the shots that were fired came out in less than 10 seconds. The text says that there was also a police killing the same day too but the two eyewitness descriptions were
The heavily armed sniper who gunned down police officers in downtown Dallas, leaving five of them dead, specifically set out to kill as many white officers as he could, officials said Friday. He was a military veteran who had served in Afghanistan, and he kept an arsenal in his home that included bomb-making materials. The gunman turned a demonstration against fatal police shootings this week of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana from a peaceful march focused on violence committed by officers into a scene of chaos and bloodshed aimed against them.
The intelligent and strategic sniper has to protect his life by killing others, and even though his brother dies because of this he was correct in his decision to kill. The sniper enjoys very much his job and is willing to fight for the republican side,“They were deep and thoughtful, the eyes of a man who is used to looking at death.” (O’flaherty, 2). This shows that the sniper is committed to the job he is required to perform. He knows he is always exposed to death and is never safe, so he always uses his critical thinking and strategic planning to get out of a dangerous situation.

This shows how the sniper’s actions without thought affect him for the worse. O’Flaherty establishes the theme of “The Sniper” by using description and irony. After the sniper turns over the dead body, he realizes what he has done. He was not thinking when he shot the enemy.
But in that case the sniper goes over to see the person who he had shot. And surely enough it was someone that is very close to him, it was his own brother… “The Sniper” uses language purposefully because ; First, at the beginning of the story, the author uses the words “fleecy” to describe the clouds. We also know that the sun was setting at the time because of the quote : “The long June twilight faded into night. ”(1) Usually when the sun sets there are beautiful fleecy clouds but in this case, right after the author says it, there is the violence of the war that starts which takes a huge mood and plot change in the story.
The third person single vision point of view of a tough sniper fighting a civil war enemy, in Liam O’Flaherty’s “The Sniper,” plays with the reader’s emotions throughout the story. He employs third person single vision point of view to tell the sniper’s intense adventure from an outside narrator who has access to the mind of the protagonist. O’Flaherty chose third person single vision POV because distancing the reader is the only way to develop a tough protagonist that the reader can be intimate with, taking into account his limited intellectual skills. Having sensory details about the sniper from the single vision third person POV narrator in addition to knowing the protagonist 's thoughts while combating an enemy, allows O’Flaherty to characterize “The Sniper” into a hefty person. Some may argue, writing in first person point of view would have created a tough protagonist because they would see it through the eyes of the sniper who they automatically assume is resilient.
