Gatsby’s love is fake

Shakespear defines “Love is blind” as loving someone makes you unable to see their faults. However, I define that love makes you so complicated that you can’t even see how this is going. People sometimes think as if they are truly in love. Similarly, the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald tells the story of a young man who misunderstands his love. The main protagonist, Gatsby falls in love with a beautiful girl, Daisy. They start to love each other. However, Daisy has left him during the war and married wealthy Tom. It mainly tells about how Gatsby tries to gain Daisy’s love back. Most readers may think Gatsby’s love is very romantic and devoted. The specific reason is that Daisy is not a good person. Her actual personality is that she is passionate about money, and status. When Gatsby throws the shirts at Daisy in his bedroom, Daisy shows her tears and says “They’re such beautiful shirts. It makes me sad because I’ve never seen such beautiful shirts before.” (72) It reveals that Daisy is a gold digger. Even though she is passionate about money, Gatsby continues to love her because whom he loves is Daisy from the past. After the party, Gatsby explains to Nick how great their love is. “I can’t describe to you how surprised I was to find out I loved her, old sport. I even hoped for a while that she’d throw me over, but she didn’t, because she was in love with me too.” (115) It shows that since Daisy loves Gatsby no matter how poor he was, he thought Daisy purely was in love with him.
