“Love is a weapon of mass destruction or reconstruction” (Anonymous). The book The Great Gatsby there is Nick Carraway who moves to New York to be a bonds salesman. There, he moves in beside Jay Gatsby, and across from his second cousin Daisy and her husband Tom. As the story unfolds the love connections in the story are revealed. The love between Daisy and Gatsby, the love between Tom and his mistress Myrtle, and Daisy and Tom’s love. The loves in The Great Gatsby were destructive to those involved, especially Daisy and Gatsby’s love. Daisy and Gatsby’s love led to the destruction of each persons livelihood through their desire to get back to the love they had before. Daisy and Gatsby had known each other before he had become rich and before he went off to war. Daisy tried to wait for Gatsby to come back but eventually she moved on and married Tom. Gatsby however was not accepting of this love. “He wanted nothing less of Daisy that that she should go to Tom and say: “I never loved you.” (Fitzgerald 109). Gatsby is desiring for Daisy to leave everything she has created with Tom in the past four years of being married. Gatsby is stuck in the mind set of that Tom is the only thing keeping him from Daisy, but the Daisy that is in his mind is the Daisy from five years ago. Daisy is no longer the woman he fell in love with and she has had an entire life without Gatsby being involved in it. Daisy has responsibilities now, although not few that keep her away from Gatsby. Gatsby growing up not having much always felt like he was mean’t for greater things in life. Gatsby’s obsession of being with Daisy the way it was five years ago stems from that. When he met Daisy and convinced her that he could provide a luxurious life for her it was then Gatsby felt he was reaching his
