These different masks can describe a person and what their intentions are. In Francis Scott’s book the Great Gatsby, set in the 1920 or otherwise know as the forgotten generation. A young wealthy man and his acquaintances all some point use a mask.The masks people put on can not only hurt them, but hurt those around them as shown in The Great Gatsby. Nick and Daisy are sitting on a coach in Daisy and Tom’s house talking about how each other have been. Nick notices about Daisy that “Her face is sad and lovely with bright things in it, bright eyes and a bright, passionate mouth, but there was excitement in her voice that men who had cared for her found difficult to forget” (9). Daisy tries to put on a front to seem happy while she is really sad about the things that have been going on between her and Tom.
