Materialism is basically the focus on material things. In the film over affluenza materialism was involved in many ways. As stated in the film affluenza is an unhappy condition of overload, debt, anxiety and waste resulting from the dogged pursuit of more. Materialism connects with affluenza, because when you focus just on material things this could make you very stressed and unhappy. Another thing mentioned in the film was how people spend more time shopping then with their children. This is an example of materialism because they would rather be buying things and gaining more stress and social destruction. Also, the film mentioned commercials and how they affect young kids. This grabs their attention and gets them preoccupied with material things. Also, commercials tend to target young kids more than adults just simply because kids are the ones to ask over and over again until they get what they want.
