What if all the characters in a book are bad? How would that make you feel? That is just the case with the novel entitled “The Great Gatsby”. Everyone has their own major flaws and it's hard to pick who is the most admirable. But the answer to who is the most admirable within the novel will have to be Nick Carraway. The plot takes place in America following World War I. In this era, American citizens were concerned and only worried about material wealth, not moral wealth. This why none of the characters in “The Great Gatsby” are very admirable. Only by doing nothing can they not get into any sort of trouble. This is very true for Nick Carraway. He literally does nothing besides going to work every day. He has no family with him and very few friends in general. There is not a time in the story where Nick gets in trouble. Gatsby speeds along the highway, Myrtle gets caught cheating on Wilson, and Jordan Baker gets caught cheating all the time. It only makes sense that if one does nothing, nothing good or bad can be done. If nothing bad is done, then that person is deemed good. Even though Nick might not be very productive, he is an admirable person in the fact that he stays out of the way by doing absolutely nothing. Within in “The Great Gatsby”, everything that is done is bad. Every move that characters make eventually come back to haunt them. This is the point of the novel. To take the least of the evil within the group of characters, Nick again proves to be the most admirable.
