Culminating Essay Hope is the possibility that something might happen, through hardships people rely on hope to get them through. Hope can keep people going through their darkest moments, it’s something that can go almost unexplained in its ways. The concept of resilience would be explained as one rather than letting failure overcome them they find a way to rise despite ongoing tragedy. These are both ways of adapting in the face of tragedy, trauma, and adversity. Resilience can be explained as “bouncing back” from difficult experience. Baba, in shame of sleeping with a Hazara woman he doesnt father either Hassan or Amir, though he may show Amir some kind of fatherly figure he is distant toward him. Baba is a wealthy character and is respected throughout his community, when he is pushed out of afghanistan he moves to America where he goes to work at a gas station. Baba shows his resilience in a way that many can see as wrong because of his wrongdoings but he still overcomes the guilt of not fathering Hassan and having an affair with Ali’s wife. In America, it is easier for him to do so seeing as he does not feel the guilt of not sharing his riches with his son Hassan because he is no longer wealthy and he does not see Hassan every day. As a result he is able to open up more and be more fatherly to Amir, and though he had lost everything he had as a refugee he dies happy.
