In our daily life, we encounter endless situations in which a person or object tries to persuade us into doing or purchasing something. These situations surround us with instances of rhetoric. We use rhetoric in conversations, animals use rhetoric, and objects use rhetoric. An example of rhetoric in an animal-human interaction is when my dog comes and lays on my lap begging for attention. It so happens that I am busy doing homework so I try to convince the dog to stay off of my lap. I have to use rhetoric to maybe persuade the dog that there is a better place to lay. Normally the only way to successfully use rhetoric with my dog is to eventually just pet him. This is an example that most people don’t think about. However, there are many more obvious experiences of rhetoric, such as advertisements posted on walls, commercials, and billboards. These normally are persuading the audience to purchase or do something, such as quick smoking. These stand out because they are obvious and normally have visual appeals to catch the eye. Deciding what to analyze is important so that the focus isn’t on the wrong thing. Also, it is imperative to making sure every piece is analyzed so nothing important is missed. When rhetorical objects are made, there is great thought into what colors, language, font, etc. to use. Also, thinking about the larger context is important when analyzing most rhetorical pieces. Every piece has a purpose behind it that isn’t completely explained in the piece. For example, an advertisement for smoking prevention doesn’t tell a person every danger and statistic that is related. Each topic is chosen for a precise reason on the advertisement and it is important to know what the context is behind the
