In life, there are all different kinds of sacrifices being made by people, whether it be big and life changing or small and not so affecting. As Mitch Albom said, “Sacrifice is a part of life. It’s supposed to be. It’s not something to regret. It's something to aspire to.” Mitch means that in order for us to live a full life we have to make sacrifices even if they’re not the best choice but they help us learn and grow from them. No matter how big of a jump it is or how scary it might be, everyone has to go through it. In the stories, Of Mice And Men, The Grapes Of Wraths, Letters From Children Of The Depression, The Coeur D’ Slene Miners’ Uprising all the characters from these sources made great sacrifices . For instance, in Of Mice And Men George, one of the main characters, Steinbeck states, “I could get along so easily if I didn’t have you on my tail. I could live so easy and maybe even have a girl” (Steinbeck 16). In the cause of the great depression he is stuck helping Lennie and in a dead end job across the country in order to survive and get money. This Stops him from being able to have the life he wants with his own ranch and his own family and wife in the future. These two jobs inbetween working on the ranch and taking care of Lennie sucks up all his time stopping him from achieving his future dreams he desires to have. All the men on the ranch thought that Curley's Wife had a perfect life but she says, “Coulda been in the movies, an’ had nice clothes” (Steinbeck 3). Even though she’s married to Curley and seems like she has the life but even she doesn't want to be there on that ranch with the life and family she has. Curley's wife is very neglected on the ranch she's treated like she doesn’t exist and doesn’t matter. Casy was talking to one of the men about the people there and he stated, “...but mostly they was there ‘cause they stole stuff: an’ mostly it was stuff they need an’ couldn’t get no other way” (The Grapes Of Wrath 5). Everyone in that jail was really only in there because they were trying to get food and other supplies that are necessary for those people and their family to survive on like food and clothes. These people sacrificed their freedom and safety and were put in prison just for trying to help themselves and others get through the tough times and someone can beat them for stealing things that are important for living. Casy and Tom are out by the stream trying to get food for their family but the angry men approach and then, “The Heavy club crashed into the side of his head with a dull crunch of bone…” (The Grapes Of Wrath 7). Casy, a kid, killed innocently just trying to get food and prove to the people that they are killing them slowly of starvation. He sacrificed his safety by getting beat allowing Tom to escape the angry and violent men that are trying to kill
