A Good Friendship Comes With Sacrifice Being a friend isn’t always easy. Sacrifice. Dedication. Tough love. Selflessness. Making hard decisions for friends when needed is key to a good friendship. A great example would be if someone is really struggling, a friend will do what they can to help them no matter how hard it can be. This connects back to how friendship comes with sacrifices. The novella of Mice and Mice by John Steinbeck reveals the theme that friends have to make sacrifices for the people they love through the internal conflicts of Candy, Lennie, and George. Through the internal conflicts of Candy, friendship is shown through his sacrifices for his friends and loved ones. An example of one of Candy’s sacrifices would be,“Well-hell! A good quote is, “‘I could eat any place I want, hotel or an place, and order any damn thing I could think of.”’ This quote expresses George’s feelings. George is always giving his entire life for Lennie and he gets annoyed sometimes. He doesn’t want to be mad at Lennie because he loves him but it happens. Another Sacrifice that George made is when George killed Lennie. John Steinbeck wrote, “George raised the gun and his hands shook, and he dropped his hand to the ground again.” George’s actions allude to the fact that he doesn’t want to kill Lennie. Lennie is his best friend but he knew it had to be done to put Lennie out of misery. He didn’t want Lennie to keep being punished for things he didn’t understand or mean to do. In conclusion of this paragraph, George made many sacrifices for Lennie. Lennie is his best friend so George wants what's best for him.
