The Way Sheriffs are Seen Today
At one point in everyone's life, they’ve either stereotyped, or had misconceptions towards a group of people. Stereotypes have been used to profile different groups of people without really knowing the truths that they have. People stereotype different groups of people either because they won't except the truth about how they really, or because they’ve seen movies, tv shows, etc. about how they perceive that group as and they end up believing it. Some stereotypes may be good and some may be offensive or just bad in general. Misconceptions aren't used as much as stereotypes, they give information about a person or group of people that is not true and of course, people believe them. This man is believed to be entitled and held to a higher standard and is is really tough and mean towards citizens. They have a green County Sheriff's office cap with a green tactical vest and a large and heavy duty belt around his waist. This man’s every day goal is to compete with other depties to see who can write the most tickets. This man is the most blunt and straight up person because that how sheriff deputies are right? This deputy is careless about other citizens needs and is more caring about staying in his cozy ventilated SUV with nothing but time to lose. This mere description of a sheriff deputy is what goes on through an average citizens mind when the name “Sheriff” is said. Sheriffs have this reputation that everyone hates them and that they’re heartless people according to deputy king during the interview. He also said that people think that they have no feeling or empathy towards other people. Deputy Torres says something very interesting when he explains, ”I believe it’s part of our job to kinda explain to people why we do certain things so they can understand”53.00-1.00. This is meant to explain why people stereotype them and this proves that the people are making a big commotion about sheriffs when all the false is coming from them. A question was asked, “ where do you think that a sheriff's heartless reputation originated from?” he responded saying that it all started when kids were young and parents were scaring them telling them to behave or else the cops are going to come. Both deputies agreed to say that a sheriff's bad reputation is given because of one deputy that screws up, Torres say, “ What one person does, affects us all” and basically what that means is that the media preys on law enforcement to make bad choices and they make a huge deal about. It’s been seen a thousand times, the news headline shows a sheriff killing an “unarmed suspect” with body cam footage, but they don't see is the full video where the sheriff gave multiple warnings and the suspect was armed but wasn’t shown on the news
