The Human Spirit What is the human spirit? People have different definitions and opinions of the “Human Spirit.” Ayn Rand’s novel, Anthem, describes how the human spirit is associated with the fundamental knowledge of intellect, reality, morals, and understanding. . “My hands… My spirit… My sky… My forest.. This earth of mine” ( Ayn 94). This quote demonstrates that having those elements affects the human mind and behavior, which creates morals. “The fortune of my spirit is not to be blown into coins of brass and flung to the winds as alms for the poor of the spirit” (Ayn95). This quote proves having morals can lead us to know the real value of our spirit. Ayn Rand’s novel, Anthem, shows that the human spirit is part of understanding. “ You fools! You thrice-damned fools!” (Ayn75). In this quote, equality demonstrates that he knows the power he found can make a difference in the world he lives in but the world council doesn’t approve of it.
