In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Tom Robinson is accused of raping a white women named Mayella Ewell. This definitely makes him a victim of racial prejudice because he is wrongfully convicted. To confirm this, in a conversation with Atticus at his trial, Atticus asked him: “Tom, did you rape Mayella Ewell?” “I did not suh.” “Did you resist her advances?” “Mr. Finch, I tried to 'thout bein' ugly to her. I didn’t want to be ugly, I didn’t want to push her or nothing.” (260) This is a statement that tells us Tom is truly innocent. He only tried to help Mayella fix a door, when she kissed him when he tried to run, he was caught by Mayella’s father Bob Ewell. After the incident with Mayella and Tom, Bob decided to blame the whole thing on Tom
