To Kill A Mockingbird by the late Harper Lee is a very monumental book in classic American literature. It is filled with craft moves that support the goals that Lee makes the reader aware of throughout the story. To Kill A Mockingbird is about the struggles of dealing with a court case supporting a black man, Tom Robinson, through the eyes of a young girl, Scout Finch. Scout lives with her father Atticus in a small home in Maycomb County, Alabama. She goes through many internal struggles throughout the story that she learns to deal with.
Tom Robinson is innocent because there is a lack of solid evidence linking him to the rape of Mayella. During the trial, Mayella claims that she screamed the whole time Tom allegedly took advantage of her; however, when Atticus questions her, she is not able to come up with any probable answers to prove Atticus’ statements wrong. Atticus asks her, “‘Why didn’t the other children hear you?’. . . ‘Or didn’t you scream until you saw your father in the window? You didn’t scream until then, did you?’”, but Mayella always has no answer to his questions (Lee 250-251).
I am reading To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 304. This book is about Tom Robinson’s trial. Bob Ewell is accusing Tom of raping his daughter, Mayella. There is no evidence that Tom committed this crime although he is still found guilty. In this paper I will be evaluating.

Ladies and gentlemen, on August 26, 1936, the jury of the Robinson v. Ewell case, committed the crime of dereliction of duty. The jury in that particular case is being put on trial based on their bias and racist verdict. After hearing all the evidence given, and at the conclusion of this case, we are assured that you will come to a verdict of guilty on these charges.
In 1960, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird was published during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. The story takes place in a small town in the deep South in the 1930’s. Lee wrote the novel to challenge her audience’s racist views of society. Atticus Finch, a white lawyer defends Tom Robinson, a black man who was accused of raping a white girl. The novel explores race relations and questions whether people are inherently good or evil.
Tom Robinson’s trial in August 26, 1935 was an event that everybody in Maycomb knew about. Mr. Ewell accuses Tom of raping his daughter Mayella Ewell. Atticus Finch, the defendant’s lawyer asked Mr. Ewell to write his name on a piece of paper to indicate whether he is right or left handed. Mr. Ewell does as instructed and reveals that he is left handed, it was said that there were hand marks on Mayella’s neck from a left handed person. The victim is now called up to speak and she swears to the oath.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a novel about a girl named Scout and her family during the course of three summers. The story takes place in Alabama in the 1930s during the Great Depression and segregation. Scout’s father Atticus defends a black man named Tom in a rape case against a white woman, Mayella Ewell. Tom’s character teaches us readers about courage in many ways. He displays real courage by speaking his mind while in court.
In the trial in a fictional novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Tom Robinson has been accused of raping Mayella Ewell. I firmly believe the jury's verdict should be that Tom is innocent. I believe the jury should arrive at this verdict because Tom had lost his left arm in cotton gin accident and Mayella was beaten on the right side of her face. “If her [Mayella's] right eye was blackened and she was beaten mostly on the right side of her face, it would be likely that a left-handed person did it” (238). It would be practically impossible for Tom to hurt the right side of Mayella’s face because his left arm is crippled.
In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Tom Robinson is accused of raping a white women named Mayella Ewell. This definitely makes him a victim of racial prejudice because he is wrongfully convicted. To confirm this, in a conversation with Atticus at his trial, Atticus asked him: “Tom, did you rape Mayella Ewell?” “I did not suh.” “Did you resist her advances?”
The novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee changed the way our society perceives minorities. To Kill a Mockingbird unveiled the idea of good and evil being present in the same person. Lee revealed that it’s the person’s ability to choose right from wrong, and good from evil. To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel about a single father raising a son and daughter in the town of Maycomb, Alabama, around the time of the Great Depression. Atticus decides to take a case that opens the eyes of the people who live in Maycomb.
In the South of the United States in the 1930´s, the justice system was very unfair towards colored people. Colored people that were sent to court could not receive a fair trial because of the prejudice and racism from the jury. This happened all the time, especially in Maycomb Alabama. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, a colored man named Tom Robinson was convicted of assaulting a white woman just because of the color of his skin. Tom Robinson should have been found not guilty for many reasons.
Getting accused of a crime based off the color a person shouldn't be a thing. The court case favored the whites and Tom Robinson who is an African American was falsely accused of raping and abusing a young white lady known as Mayella. Harper Lee tries to advocate civil rights in the book To Kill a Mocking Bird by showing a unfair court case, racism, and unfair social justice. There was an unfair court case in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird because they accused a black man known as Tom Robinson of rape without fully proving he did the crime. Tom Robinson's defender Atticus Finch tried proving Tom was innocent in many ways.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee tells a story of racial prejudice during the Depression and how it is combated. The main development in the novel is that a Atticus, the father of Scout and Jem, has been appointed to defend Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a young white woman named Mayella. Many people in the town of Maycomb, particularly people involved with the case of Tom, have a negative attitude towards African Americans. Prejudice was a terrible issue in the South during the Depression, but Atticus Finch shows that racial injustice can be combated in two main ways, each having different levels of effectiveness.
In chapters 17-24 in To Kill A Mockingbird, Jem and Scout observe their father in court defending Tom Robinson (a black man) from the accusations of the Bob Ewell (a "low grade ' ' white man). Bob Ewell accuses Tom Robinson of sexually assaulting his daughter; Mayella Ewell. Before the fate of Tom Robinson is given in the possession of the jury, both lawyers have a final attempt at convincing the jury that Tom Robinson should/shouldn 't be prosecuted. Atticus starts off his closing remarks with the fact that he believes that the case should have never come to trial and that the case "”is as simple as black and white."

Food insecurity exists when people lack access to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food, and therefore is not consuming enough for an active and healthy life. This may be due to the unavailability of food, inadequate purchasing power, or inappropriate utilization at the household level. Food insecurity leads to under-nutrition at the micro and macro nutrient level.
