In this article, Yesilbas, Trendacosta, and Newitz, list thirteen examples of Armageddon stories that teach lessons about the real world and its end. One example they examine is Logan’s Run. This book depicts survivors of war, overpopulation, and pollution living in a city sealed off from the forgotten world. However, life and death are controlled by a computer and when a person turns 30 they are disintegrated and reborn. If you choose not to die, you will be referred to as a “runner”, a criminal hunted down and murdered by the police.
Today I’m reviewing the novel “Armageddon Summer” by Jane Yolen and Bruce Coville. “Armageddon Summer” is about Jed and Marina going up this mountain top because there parents and the other believers think that the world will end in fire on July 27th. The leader, Reverend Beelson is the one who predicted the end and prophesied that the only way to survive for the new world afoot is going to the mountain top. But for now it’s just the beginning for Marina and Jed relationship for each other. There not even sure what to believe in for now.
Book Review: Isaac’s Storm Introduction: Isaac’s Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History, written by Erik Larsen, is a book which may very well be called one-of-a-kind, as it describes one of the most disastrous of the natural calamities of the world-the Galveston hurricane of 1900 and the events which precede it. The author has carefully analysed the hurricane, scrutinized the impact caused by the actions of several people prior to the hurricane that ultimately resulted in massive destruction (Larson, 2011). He has pointed out with precision how the wrongful thought processes of that time led to such a tragedy. Review: The author has pointed out the fact that the thoughtless actions of some men are mostly to blame for the tragedy.
Flannery O’Connor was a southern woman from Georgia with a strong catholic faith. She frequently questioned morality, ethics and classical humanities. In her last story “Revelation” many people believe that there are a lot of religious and philosophical references. In the article “The Unrevealed in Flannery O’Connor’s ‘Revelation’” by Jacky Dumas and Jessica Hooten Wilson they believe there are references to Plato’s allegory of the cave and the Old Testament. In Ronald Pepin’s article “Latin names and images of ugliness in Flannery O' Connor's ‘Revelation’” he believes that there is ugliness throughout the story and that the character all have symbolic.
Flannery O’Connor details a woman living in the South in the short story, “Revelation”. The main character, Mrs. Turpin, holds anyone that is not on in her social level with very little regarding i.e. black or poor people. Once Mrs. Turpin met her match in a doctor’s office waiting room, she herself had a moment of self-reflection. O’Connor told the story of her stereotypical character using notable literary devices to enhance and emphasize the tale. The most notable is her use of ethical, emotional, and logical appeals to ensure the reader’s experience.
The Trials and Tribulations of John Hinckley Jr. The United States have seen some famed court cases that stir up a large amount of controversy. These court cases usually will cause mass protests against the verdict of the trial which is what the John Hinckley Jr. v. United States trial did. John Hinckley Jr. was the man who attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan outside the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. In the 1982 Court Case of United States v. Hinckley, the innocent verdict correctly acquitted John Hinckley Jr as he had an obsession to the movie Taxi Driver, he had schizophrenia, and he suffered from severe depression.
One last example of civil disobedience is found in the book of Revelation where the Antichrist commands all those who are alive during the end times to worship an image of himself. Annually, millions of people travel to northern France to view the grand and pompous Baroque style of the Palace of Versailles’s Hall of Mirrors. Built in 1698 during the reign of Louis XIV, the Palace of Versailles stood for over 100 years as “the primary residence of the kings of France and the seat of the government,” and in 1979, the Palace of Versailles and its gardens were decreed a World Heritage site by the UNESCO. An examination of the Palace’s Hall of Mirrors will reveal a dramatic use of light, symmetry, large-scale frescoes, a shell for painting, sculpture, and stucco, and an opulent use of rich color and accessories common to a French Baroque-style interior. Louis XII (r. 1610 - 1643) used the initial residence as a hunting lodge and retreat for his family, and in 1624, he commissioned Jacques Lemercier to build a chateau on the site, which remains as “the exterior façade overlooking the Marble Court.” From 1661 to 1710, Louis XIV oversaw the residential transformation of the majestic complex surrounded by gardens.

The author, Susan Glaspell, showed many ways in the story “Trifles” how males can look at things in a different perspective than women sometimes do. For generations, women have fought for power and rights, one of the biggest events in history is The Women’s Rights’ Movement starting in 1848 and going on for years until 1920 when the 19th amendment that granted American women the right to vote. Throughout history the fight between women and men has been a long process from rights, to gender specific roles in career, pay, and equality.

Introduction The American disaster comedy film, This Is the End is a valid portrayal of an environmental disaster. The plot of the movie surrounds a group of friends trying to cope with several natural disasters at once, before realizing an apocalypse of biblical proportions has erupted. I will be discussing how disaster themes, such as emergency mitigation, management, interaction and recovery, were portrayed in this film. Also, I will analyze how the portrayal of disaster in this film can influence public understanding.
On July 8, 1741 Jonathan Edwards delivered the sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” During this time many people were moving away from their Puritan beliefs and did not make God a priority. In the message he talked about how everyone was a sinner and how everyone belongs in hell. He also talked about how if God wanted to He would throw everyone in Hell, but since He gave us His Son we should take Him and repent. While delivering this message many people began to repent and ask for forgiveness.
Billy Graham is a religious figure and Christian evangelist he became a Christian superstar and a preacher. His views on the Rapture were “There were many Christians who believe that the second coming of Jesus Christ will be in two phases. First he will come for the believers, both living and dead, in the “rapture”; read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17. In this view, the rapture which is the transformation and catching up of all Christians dead or alive, to meet Christ in the air, will be secret for it will be unknown to the world of unbelievers at the time of its happening.” He says that after the thousands years living unbelievers and the wicked dead now raised to life will be judged at the great white throne judgement.

" The poem describes the day of judgement, in which God sentences men to either heaven or hell. Wigglesworth publishes the poem in 1662. The poem is a best-selling classic, especially in Puritan New England. The poem bases around how the weak Puritans are falling into sin and self-satisfaction.
Before discussing the key characteristics of apocalyptic literature, it must be noted that it bears many similarities to the prophetic genre. Indeed, scholars suggest that apocalyptic is a development of Jewish prophetic literature. Mutual characteristics include the communication of God’s word for the present age, the themes of impending judgement and salvation, and the use of symbolism.
