Is there such a thing as true love? Throughout life and marriage there will be many challenges to face with true love. It can be hard to not be tempted to give up on love. William Shakespeare, a well- known writer, is remembered for plays based on love. Many challenges are tested in Shakespeare’s plays and in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This includes not only love, but friendship as well. In A Midsummer Summer Night’s Dream, Lysander’s quotation, “The course of true love never did run smooth” is tested by trust, temptation, and true love itself.

Hermia and Demetrius run off into the forest for love. They leave everything they have ever known so they can be together forever. That is a pure example of true love. Theseus and Hippolyta get engaged and later marry. Being newly wed has many challenges, especially with him being the Duke of Athens. With him being busy it can be hard to put all of his attention to her. Helena destroys the close friend that she was with Hermia for true love. She is madly in love with Demetrius and dreams of marrying him. So, she believes that telling Demetrius about Hermia and Lysander running away he will fall for her.

True love comes in many ways, shapes, and forms. As the reader can see, true love does not run smooth. In, A Midsummer Night’s Dream the lovers and friends face hardships of love for the man and women they love and the friends they love as well. That is why love’s challenges can consist of losing friends, giving up your old life, or even everything you have ever owned. True love is pure a beautiful thing but there are struggles and stress along with it and that is why it takes that special person to get through it with
