Enduring Issue’s are topics that have been going on for centuries, even today. Ideas and Beliefs tie into ancient Greece because Socrates believed that the gods were not real. This enduring issue also ties into ancient Greece because the ancient Greeks believed that there were gods that did things (such as Helios dragging the sun each day) that have been proven wrong throughout time with science. Ideas and Beliefs is when a certain group of people such as Athens or Sparta presume in something. According to document 2 the text says, “He engaged in a method of inquiry (now known as the Socratic method) that involves asking and answering questions to arrive at a deeper understanding of an issue”.
Everyone in life wants to fit in because why would anyone want to be left out? However, the fact that we want to fit in ruins some people's lives because of the limits they go to to accomplish our common goal. On the contrary, some lives are ruined by trying to stand out and not staying with the crowd. This is very clearly stated in two very different ways by Guy de Maupassant in the story “The Necklace” and by Ray Bradbury in “The Pedestrian”.

The eight Greek evil thoughts held a key part in how a person lived their daily lives and how a person lived by those rules that they held to a crucial part of their lives. These rules were the moral code of a Grecian daily life and were expected to be followed until the day that you die. The epic, The Odyssey, is written by the scholar Homer. When Odysseus travels to the Cyclops cave he does not expect that in a short amount of time that he would lose some of his men because of the Cyclops devouring them. Through, cunning wit and manipulation, also the use of alcohol, Odysseus and his men stab the Cyclops in his eye and escape the island with the stolen herd that had belonged to the now blind Cyclops.
All of their resources such as plays, laws, and myths brought in the power of speech as an essential part of learning which could lead people to progress which was so valued. Aristotle's view on ethics is that virtues that are ideal are between two extremes, the deficient and the excess of that virtue. Many of these virtues are seen in The Odyssey. The Odyssey is an epic poem consisting of twenty-four books. The book was made by the famous Greek poet, Homer. The story is about Odysseus who goes through a ten-year journey to get back to his home, Ithaca.
Growing up, the idea of becoming an attorney was always appealing to me. I was inspired by my father and grandfather, two fulfilled and passionate attorneys. As I aged, I grew attracted to the complexities of the legal system and the idea of using my voice to advocate for others. However, as I began my undergraduate education, I grappled with uncertainties about following in their footsteps. I decided to continue taking government courses, but vowed to explore other areas of study.
Is Antigone a True Depiction of Greek Tragedy? It is only in the Greek tragedy Antigone, written by Sophocles, where the citizen of Thebes that rebelled against the law is the soon to be daughter-in-law of the king. All actions have consequences, which is one thing Sophocle taught the audience. In Antigone’s case, her action lead to a chain of deaths, including hers, and the lifelong suffering of her sister and uncle.
Throughout time, perspectives on what is morally good and bad have been reformed as generations come and go. Prized virtues come and go with the different opinions of those who influence others, lost as they drift away in the wind, but some have stood the test of time and continue to be a shining example of a perfect prized virtue. In the epic poem, The Odyssey, Homer tells the story of the ten year journey home that Odysseus suffered following the Trojan War. While today's society has very prominent virtues that align with Homer's The Odyssey for instance generosity, courage, and respect, some striking virtues in the epic poem, like loyalty and craftiness, have been merely erased from society all over the world as they forge new standards
In The Odyssey, Greek culture is evident as Odysseus shows his confidence, smart, and cleverness on his journey. Throughout his whole journey he goes to 15 stops and he has a lot of strengths and weaknesses shown throughout the Odyssey. His first strength that he had is his confidence. He is super confident in what he does.
Excellence and virtue are pivotal concepts in Greek Culture. For example, the Athenian justice system uprooted the traditional “eye for an eye” form of justice that we see in the Oresteia. Indeed, the characters who exact this form of justice create intense anxiety in the audience, which Aeschylus remedies with Athena in the Eumenides. This idea is apparent from her placement within the trilogy, and the way she interacts with the Furies and Apollo. Because of her ability to relieve and reorder character emotion, Aeschylus uses Athena as a primary means to produce catharsis in the audience.
Greeks, whether it be Athenians or Spartans, believed education was a crucial part in forming the future generations. The education reflected each city-state’s ideas and morals. “Cultural Mecca” is the Athenian education which focused on literature and diplomacy, while Spartans focused on victory. Due to their military based mind set, Spartans focused much of their education to produce a disciplined army. This included athletics, survival skills, and physical training.
The Greek Gods: Tyranny in Exchange for Power Throughout the evolution of society, one idea has stayed the same. That is the belief that we need to consistently be the best and the most powerful. We use this as a measure of self-worth and the foundation of the social hierarchy. The hierarchical nature of society drives this motivation of people to do everything it takes to reach the top. Our commitment can be so incredibly devout that we lose more than we gain on the search for this sense of power.
Socrates started his life as an average Athen citizen. His parents worked, making an honest living. But as Socrates grew up, he began to realize that his mind questioned things and wondered how come no one else questioned the same things or at least think about the answers to the questions that were not answered. So, as his mind kept wandering, he began to acknowledge the questions that were not answered and sought for those answers. He ended up believing and teaching things to other people, whether it went against the way the Athen government or not, he still continued his work.
There are many greek influences on our culture today. However, these impacts are not very widely known in our modern society. The Greek culture affects our everyday way of life. They created democracy, the alphabet, libraries, the Olympics, math, science, architecture, and even lighthouses. Greecians created systems that would not be imagined in a person’s wildest dreams.
