Based on the information I have learned about radio broadcasting from our group project, I know that millions of Americans listen to the radio. In fact, 232 million Americans listen to traditional AM/FM radio every week, which is more than all other media sources audience combined. This means that radio definitely has an impact in America, especially talk radio. Talk radio provides many people with entertainment while they are working or commuting. This audience many consists of farmers, the majority of which statistically are conservative or republican. Talk radio has enabled conservatives hosts, such as Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage, to become very famous names in the world of radio. For the past 48 minutes I have listened to a recording of Rush Limbaugh’s podcast that was recorded on March 2nd. In his opening he states that his show is advanced conservative and anti-leftist. He goes on to talk about media such as CNN, the New York Times, and more claiming that Trump’s government is in disarray. Rush Limbaugh points out that Trump has been very successful in his presidency of following through on his agenda. He also goes on to talk the Robert Mueller investigation that is trying to prove Trump is colluding with Russia. Talk shows reach many Americans and they can be very educational by providing information about current politics. With the approach of Rush Limbaugh reading an article that is left sided and responding with a counterpoint from the conservative side, listeners do hear about the sides of an issue. However, talk shows easily shows the hosts bias toward one side of the situation. With radio we can hear the person’s voice and tone and they are much less scripted than other forms of media.
