The following month a couple that went snorkeling reported that they photographed what they thought to be were skeletal remains. When this was reported an underwater search was conducted but nothing was fund. Sloot began to use the disappearance of Holloway to his advantage by demanding money in exchange for the location of Holloway’s body. He was wired $15,000 dollars on May 10. He was also given $10,000 in cash which was recorded by Aruban officials. (Wikipedia, n.d.) When official went to locate the body, they realized that Sloot was not being truthful. The location where he said the body was, was not even constructed. For this reason Sloot was charged for extortion and wire fraud in the U.S District court of Northern Alabama. On June 30 he was indicted on the charges.
Sloots home was raided and the U.S department of justice found a few items that may have been useful to the case. One of the items belonged to Jaap Mesz who was one of the reporters that interviewed Sloot. The information brought Dave Holloway back to look for possible new clues but as before, no findings.

After 10 years man by the name of Jurrien de Jong claimed to have known where Natalee was buried but the officials did not want to believe this man.
