The Burmese python has become a predatory species in the Florida Everglades. The reason for this problem is the rapid growth rate of the species occurring all over the Everglades. The species have become pets and then thrown in canals. They also escape from zoos and move from other states because of the warm moist weather. The environment is an excellent breeding ground for the ever growing population of Burmese pythons in the Everglades.
Sadly this whole problem was started by humans. This exotic pets we brought here because greedy pet store owners want to sell them to uneducated pet owners. All the pet store owners want is money and are not worried about the repercussions. Those who buy these animals don’t know how to take care of them and the snakes grow larger than they expected. So the owners don’t know what to do so they release them into the wild.
They are exotic species and it is making the pet stores get more money by selling them to pet owners. They are really hard to kill you have to cut off their head to kill them. In Source 1n it says, “To kill their prey, they first gapse it with their black- curving teeth.” People don’t know how many snakes there are in the Everglades so that is making it harder to catch. I think they need to get Indians to go hunt in the Everglades to catch them they should hunt in the dark and in the day.
Many people use dogs or cats as their emotional support animal, but there are some that would consider their exotic pets an emotional support animal as well. Exotic pets should not be considered emotional support animals because they can be potentially harmful to the owner and the people around them and are not usually a domesticated animal. Many people enjoy owning pets that could be considered exotic. They feel that it shows wealth and power. Some people even go so far as to consider this
Exotic animals are animals that stay wild, do not have resources that are easily accessible, and can be dangerous which means that humans should not be allowed to keep them as pets. Zoos and aquariums are institutions that capture live animals and keep them in cages or large enclosures for public exhibition.
For example, they capture animals in the wild so that they can be put in there own zoos. in 2006, a zoo imported 33 monkeys who had been illegally trafficked by poachers in Africa (Smith). This means that animals Are being taken away from there natural habitat just so they can be put in zoos. Additionally, animals are not usually released back into the wild. Animals in zoos are released back into the wild only 26% of the time (Lin).
Maintaining an environment suitable for an animal from a different ecosystem is extremely time consuming and expensive. Modern day homes are not equipped with backyard jungles for Bengal tigers, or large amounts of spaces with objects for chimpanzees to climb on. It is nearly impossible for exotic pet owners to imitate the natural homes of these animals, which is what they require to ensure the animal lives a comfortable life. What most fail to realize is that these animals will not be able to adapt from a South American jungle, or African plain to a caged in backyard with a completely foreign ecosystem and lifestyle than these animals are meant to belong in. Finding veterinary care for exotic animals is a difficult task, let alone being able to meet the dietary needs of large, carnivorous animals or massive mammals.
In particular, animals need to be in their natural environment in order to survive. “In the absence of that, they are permanently stressed to the point where their immune systems are compromised, and they have no defense against the kind of infections that are common to orcas who spend their lives in concrete tanks” (Marino 1). Animals in a human environment can be an endangerment since they are supposed to be adapted to their environment. “Even at the very best of human care and medicine cannot fill the void since, if they are to thrive orcas need ‘orca care’ in an orca environment, not a human one” (Marino 2). Animals used for breeding can be dangerous and result in serious disorders.
