Before I started this Unit I knew very little about snorkelling. I only knew the basics and none of the important information such as how to avoid hypothermia. However, now that I have finished this Unit I know much more than I did beforehand and I have acquired a lot of experience in the future.
Three examples of knowledge I have acquired during this Unit is what the Sniff Test is. The Sniff Test is a procedure to check if your mask fits by placing the mask on your face without fitting the straps, gently inhaling through your nose and letting go of the mask, if it stays it fits. Secondly, I learned when to go snorkelling by researching the weather and swell conditions on the day you wish to go snorkelling. Thirdly, I learned where a number of reefs are in Victor Harbor, such as Oliver’s Reef which I have actually walked past many times while going for beach walks.

A whale blast is when you come up for air and blow the water out of your snorkel hard, while a dolphin puff is slowly pushing out the water in your snorkel while you ascend to the surface. Thirdly, I learned how to duck dive which you do by swimming to the desired dive point, bending at the waist and diving as the motion pushes you
