Anatomy and Physiology: Exploring Body Systems and the Organs

The structural organization of the human body of composed of levels. Starting with only chemicals, the levels progress to ultimately form the organism as a whole. The body is organized into 12 systems. The systems have their own separate function for the body, but they all work together to keep you alive. Your body needs support for movement, structure, and body temperature regulation with the skeletal, muscular and integumentary systems. The digestive, urinary and cardiovascular systems work to eliminate wastes and absorb nutrients. Staying healthy and fighting disease is regulated by the lymphatic system. One of the goals in life is to reproduce with the male and female reproductive systems, with help from the endocrine system. Last, but definitely not least, is the nervous system. The nervous system is the control center for everything that goes on in the body. …show more content…

The nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord. The functional cells of this system are called neurons; they send impulses through the body that contain information. Potassium and sodium ions generate nerve impulses, and then neurotransmitters transport the impulses. Meninges are the membranes that protect the brain and spinal cord. Cerebrospinal fluid is fluid that acts as a cushion for the brain. The brain is divided into major parts; they are the cerebrum, diencephalon, brainstem, and cerebellum. The Cerebrum is the largest part and I divided into lobes. The lobes are frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital. I wanted to dissect the brain while it was still intact but it was too delicate. I was able to separate the spinal column and extract the spinal cord from the vertebral bones. Learning about the human body in depth is pleasure and one of the coolest things. Dissecting the piglet was awesome and a big learning
