Black Trans Women Changes the Perception of Beauty

Being a black person and a transgender is like putting your life at risk. A black person has to deal with racial discrimination but add to that, transwomen must also deal with people who are against their type. Plus, they are expected to adhere to a woman’s beauty standard.
This means they have to act feminine to be able to blend in the society. Hence, instead of standing out, they need to find ways not to stand out. In 2015, the hashtag #TransIsBeautiful was launched by Laverne Cox. The concept behind the campaign is to encourage transwomen to learn to love themselves. Here are some transwomen who are changing the way we perceive beauty.
Vanessa Clark

Kuchenga Cheng shares how she gave away her pre-loved wigs in order to go natural. In this time in society, she says how gad she feels to be redefining what being real is. Whenever she sees a juicy, dark-skinned black women with thick afro hair in the mirror, her heart skips a beat as she says to herself “It’s me.”
Eva Reign
Eva Reigns shares how transitioning to becoming a transwoman is such a fulfilling experience for her. Similar to how Cheng sees herself in the mirror, Reign also looks at her reflection as someone she recognizes.
She sees who she really is and appreciates her body. Reign used to struggle to see herself as beautiful because she used to see herself through the eyes of other people.
