The final chapter, chapter 21, of Russ Shafer-Landau’s book, The Fundamentals of Ethics, emphasis is placed on the fact that moral objectivity is not always completely universal but does not mean the idea of moral objectivism has to be rejected. Moral objectivism states that moral standards should be universal but there are some circumstances and exceptions to this claim. Shafer-Landau presents eleven arguments in chapter 21 that some consider challenges to the universality principle of moral objectivity. Not only will moral objectivism be examined in this paper but also another philosophical view known as moral skepticism will be discussed. In addition to the arguments present by Shafter-Landau’s book this paper will include an analysis from
Every journey is a lifetime” (p51), and lastly, “Discipline is doing what you are supposed to do in the best possible manner at the time you are supposed to do it. And that’s not such a bad thing” (p35). The five fundamental qualities are communication, trust, collective responsibility, caring, and pride. “I like to think of each as a separate finger on the fist. Anyone individually is important.
A few more important traits are the ability to think critically, good judgment and decision making, and good time management (O*NET
"The Road to Character,” which is written by David Brooks is a book that examines the idea of our own individual uniqueness, character and its importance in our lives. In “The Road to Character,” Brooks contends that instead of cultivating inner virtues and character, our society today has grown more concerned with generating resumes. In his book, Brooks contrasts two different kinds of virtues; resume virtues and eulogy virtues as well as discussing the two different human natures (Adam I and Adam II) which he uses to depict the differences between the virtues he discusses throughout the duration of his book. Brooks also looks at several historical characters and modern people. He talks about the significance of humility, self-control, and
“Virtuous Minds” by Philip E. Dow focuses primarily on loving and serving God with one’s mind. Dow explains that intellectual character consists of inner attitudes and deposition towards things such as truth, knowledge, and understanding. Similarly, a virtuous intellectual character is defined as a deep and abiding love of truth. Dow states that the decisions people make are shaped by the thinking patterns they have developed over the years. Dow describes intellectually courageous people as those who earnestly want to know the truth, and therefore take risks in the promotion and pursuit of truth.
And hopefully everyone else feels the same. To me I feel that it is absolutely indispensable to respect other people regardless of how they treat you. Or in a more general way be able to tolerate other people. In life you’re not going to like every person you meet and not everyone you meet will like you. Some may claim they don’t care, but in reality, they really should.
Every person has a scarlet letter whether they know or not. This scarlet letter represents us, good or bad, it is apart of us. Many people today in our culture label each other with these characteristics. The characteristic that I chose for myself is Competitiveness. Competitiveness is having a strong desire to compete or succeed.

Having the responsibility respect should be giving all the time. Having respect to elders, having that kind of respect for them is a good thing to have. Because when it is time for them to go it is going to be really hard because that respect was not there as much as previously thought. And just plain having respect for everyone, does not mean if their being rude, or upset about something, that does not mean anyone should have to be rude to them back. I would rather show people a smile if they are being rude because well that is how I am, and
You must show those who you are loyal to you that you care about them and respect them in return. Respect is the third characteristic and one of the most important. I was raised that you will receive respect when you give it. I have met many people who have little respect for the world around them and it always crumples to pieces before their feet. When you have and give respect you
I have grown up learning that you give respect you get respect and I have learned to keep that mindset no matter what. We always made everything fun and kept it enjoyable like today it makes the day go faster and I have always thought it worked and lived by that. Growing up on the farm kept me realizing you never run out of things to do. If it's from tinkering to running around tearing things apart. It helped me learn and figure out how things work and don’t take it for granite.
These traits are intelligence, self-confidence, determination, integrity, and sociability. I recognize all of these traits within myself. Between my leadership history and my strengths, which were identified from the StrengthsFinder Inventory that I completed this past year, I realize that I
Reflection of Report & 3 Strengths and 3 Weaknesses. It was evident from my year 9 report that I get good grades, so I normally work hard and put a lot effort into my work. Moreover, this means that I do my homework and hand it up on time. I am also nice and respectful to my peers and I help them out whenever I can. This is a really good trait to have because then I can always ask other students for help.
In school, if I treat a teacher with respect, they might favor bumping your grade up from a high B+ to an A-. When I make friends, I have to be respectful as well. If I act rude and condescending, then no one would want to be my friend. As humans, we are heavily social animals and our level of success in our lives depend on how well we can work with others. Having respect is a major aspect of this social interaction, making it very important.
The values and teaching passed on to me from my parents will stay the guiding me for who I am today, and for the rest of my live. Mom and Dad were my
