What exactly makes something essential? As an adjective, essential means something or someone is absolutely necessary or indispensable. An example of this would be how honesty and trust are essential in a relationship whereas something trivial such as having the same style or haircut isn't. Likewise, to Christopher McCandless, it was essential, or his desideratum, that he could live off the grid and support himself. However, unlike Christopher, I don’t have one. Instead, have several morals that I use to act according to my own personal standard. Throughout elementary school and middle I was often made fun of and ridiculed because I was “odd” and didn’t fit in with the other girls in my classes much. And hopefully everyone else feels the same. To me I feel that it is absolutely indispensable to respect other people regardless of how they treat you. Or in a more general way be able to tolerate other people. In life you’re not going to like every person you meet and not everyone you meet will like you. Some may claim they don’t care, but in reality, they really should. Going through daily life, naturally you often have to interact with other people, such as your boss, teacher, or co-workers. But what are you going to do when you come across someone you don’t like per say and you have to work with them to accomplish something like a project? Obviously you have a goal to accomplish, but how are you going to when you can’t even maintain a simple conversation with the individual without exchange snide comments? Teacher’s don’t force you to complete group work for no reason! It’s to help you learn to respect or at least tolerate other people enough to work
