The rule that I attempt to follow is to treat others like I want to be treated in the way of respect. By following this rule, allows me to respect others when they are around me, so that I am respected or treated the same way back. My background is that I come from being a Catholic and was told to not judge others or treat them unfairly. It just is against my own morals in doing so. In the first test of a maxim asks,” It is universalizable? No matter where one is located or how they were raised, they must be treated with respect. In this chapter, Kant would say, ‘You ought to treat your sister in a fair manner” (DeSensi & Rosenberg, p.78). Kant establishes that there is an absolute and no qualification of it becoming linked to a moral claim. The problem is that if one did not treat their sister fair or did not love her, thus, that would cause the binding force to not be very strong and would no longer remain in the domain of morality. In addition, as stated in the textbook on p. 78, “Kent relied on human ability to reason carefully about ethical issues because he firmly believed the foundation of human existence is based on fact that humans are rational beings. His ethics is firmly grounded not in intuition, divine authority, desires, consequences, and the like, but in reason.
