Born Only to be Taken The Novel My Sister’s Keeper is narrated by the different views of the main characters: Anna, Campbell, Kate, Jesse, Sara and Brian. The story takes place in their home in Indiana, and Anna recaps how she was born for the sole purpose of saving her sister, Kate, who was diagnosed with leukemia at a young age and needed a bone marrow transplant. Her older brother, Jesse, was not a match, so her parents decided to have her. Anytime Kate needed anything such as blood or bone marrow, she would donate it. In present day, she is visiting a pawn shop, trying to sell a locket for money. She then visits a lawyer named Campbell Alexander. She enters his office and discovers he has a service dog, and Campbell only gives sarcastic responses when asked what he is for. She tells him that she wants to sue her parents for the rights to her own body so she does not have to donate her kidney to her sister, who is in kidney failure. Campbell agrees to take on her case, saying it will be easy and he doubts they will have to even go to court.
