Explain How The Apollo Mission Changed American History

The Apollo Mission changed American history in many ways. The effects range from the science we use today, understanding land masses and its catastrophes, all the way to technological advances. The Apollo Missions overall improved the standards of living in America.

Science is constantly changing with new discoveries found everyday. A major part of science being geology and the study of our planet. A brief description of geology is the study of Earth's physical structure. The Apollo missions allowed scientists to understand the planet further. The missions gave access to the formation of materials on other planets giving them an idea of how our planet was formed. Professor Smith, a geologist from the University of Chicago proclaims,” In general, …show more content…

These missions wouldn't have been possible without the results of new technology. A few things that needed to be addressed were human and cargo safety. This had to be done repeatedly and precisely to make sure lunar landings went smooth. “The Autonomous precision Landing Hazard Avoidance Technology (ALHAT) project developed into the Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) technologies that were necessary to carry out the mission.” (Autonomous Precision) This was not the only technology that needed to be developed though. Carbon Dioxide removal systems were essential and needed to be developed, without this astronauts wouldn’t be able to breathe up in space. This is not the only system that sustains life though. Life support itself was a massive problem if space travel would be possible. Any Apollo mission would have been a long journey. In the time traveling astronauts would have gotten hungry. Knowing hunger would be an issue, in the planning for Apollo freeze dried food was an extensively researched subject. Freeze dried food began “Freeze-drying was invented by Jacques-Arsene d’Arsonval at the College de France in Paris in 1906” (Freeze-Drying). The research was continued for use in each Apollo Mission. The Apollo Missions overall have improved America, but some believe that they were all a …show more content…

This is due to many factors. A few to list would be the flag waving when it shouldn't have, pictures being fake because there are no stars, and the shadows not being parallel with the astronauts. Dr. Henry claims,” It’s waving because there is no air on the moon and once something starts to move it doesn’t stop” (Scots scientists). No air in space would mean there is no friction in space further the explanation of it continuing to move. Furthermore fake pictures have been brought into the equation. Theorists claim there are no stars, therefore the pictures were taken in a studio. Fortunately Dr Hendry has evidence to prove this theory wrong. He says that the bright light of the Sun reflects off the surface of the Moon and drowns out the stars in the background of the photos (Scots scientists). Both theories being proven wrong there is one left. Theorists also claim that the shadows were not parallel with the astronauts. Dr Hendry quickly disbands this argument by saying that the Sun doesn’t always cast parallel
